Before and After: Living Room

Here are some before and after pictures (awesome quality cell phone pictures) of a clients living room I helped with. After seeing her sister-in-law's (Photographer Rebekah Westover) new living room re-do featured in Utah Style and Design Magazine Check out article here.
We wanted to ultimately lighten up her space as well as capture and combined the husband and wife's style. The husband enjoys more of the rustic western look while the wife wanted to add bold pattern and color to the space.  We  were able to find pieces that had classic shapes that could easily last the test of time and finding color in accessories, pillows and art was how we were able to add some personality. Enjoy.

Back to Blogging

So I haven't touched this blog in a million years..... but I have been updated Drew's blog every week!! What's up with that!! I originally told myself I wouldn't let Drew's Blog have more posts then mine and his currently has 81 posts and mine has 83. Looks like it's time to blog again.

Reasons for not blogging:
1. I really don't have anything going on, My life consists of going to work, eating , and sleeping. (not much to blog about)
2. It's hard...and boring to just post pictures of things I like because I don't have any real life interior design projects that I have any pictures of.... =-/
3. My job is different from a typical designer's job. I basically work with a client at the store, I will occasionally go out to their house, and then I will find them furniture, rug etc. I rarely get to see any type of finished project. I will bug people for pictures and I usually get the same response, "Oh ya, give me your email again, I lost it" WHATEVER people!!!
4. I also don't have time to do anything else outside of my job. I feel like I work so  much that my own house is very much neglected. I still have a freaking love sac in my living room....COME ON KATIE!
5. It's a lot of work, with pinterest, instagram and facebook... it's just one more social media source to update. lol.

Well enough with the excuses I guess... Here is an inspiration board I did for a client who whats to redo her basement so she could use it as a voice coaching studio. She has a kitchen in the basement  and wanted to update it an inexpensive as possible. We decided that we would just paint the cabinets, put new flooring in and change out some light fixtures. She also eventually wants to redo her main kitchen upstairs. This board has a few different options I came up with for her.

Well I guess I will update you if she ends up going through with any of these ideas. Thanks or reading. =)

Eclectic African Room

So a while back I had a client who had just gotten back from hunting in Africa and needed some help figuring out what to do with her room once she got her taxidermy animal heads on the wall. She already had her leather sofa, and hutch and just needed some E-Design help freshening up. These were the inspiration boards I sent her and surprisingly she did a really good job!

This is her before picture:

inspiration boards!

These are some pictures of her almost finished room. She hasn't gotten the Taxidermy up yet :-/

We did customize her ottoman and pillows from the Gatehouse with Lee Industries, which I blogged about here. She chose one on my favorite fabrics and this great round tufted ottoman. Her cute yellow chairs are a great deal from Target. And her drapes are from Crate and Barrel.

Love the wall color and I think it will be a nice back drop for her African animals. I think the only thing I would change would be the rug size. (and maybe eventually the sofa)
She did a great job and I can't wait to see the room with her zebra, warthog, gazelle heads on the wall!!!

Craftsman Banister

My parent's house was built in the 70's and even though it has been remodeled, she still has some parts of the home that still need some updating, one of them being the banister. Here is a pic of that I found of me, the fam and the stair-rail.

My Parents are wanting to update it but were unsure of which style to go with. I found a house that looks like it was built around the same time and has similar bones as the Tekulve home, including the same stair-rail. These are some before and after pictures of a stair-rail from The Hillside Home that was beautifully updated.

As you can see, it is very similar to my mom's rail. Even the same type of stairway set up.

After Pictures!

Both houses aren't craftsman style homes, but the clean lines still compliment the architecture of both homes. This would be a nice update to my mom's home and will help bring up the value if they were to move.
